    Thame Driving Blog

About 2 years ago I was approached by several customers about information that we know as "motor industry experts" but is unknown to the wider public.

I thought that knowing what to do to pass your MOT or how to claim money back if you hit a pothole was easy information to find. Apparently not, and anayway when it comes to cars and motoring, what I have found is that there is alot of guff and untruths out there. The feeling I got was that people want to listen to people that they trust.

So....I started writing articles about useful motoring information, amusing tales and local information. I now send this out to over 2,000 people on a monthly basis along with other motor related emails and generally get really good feedback. In fact what happens now is that my readers are now telling me what to write about.

I hope you enjoy the articles and if there is a particular topic you want to know about then please let me know.

    The results are in!

Saturday was a busy day at Thame Cars HQ, as we put the vote for the ‘best’ car brand out to the good people of Thame.

You can read all the car mags you like, with their comparisons of engine efficiency and styling and practicalities.

But ultimately it just comes down to what you prefer.

The car you drive is a personal choice.

You may not be able to articulate precisely why you like the feel of driving it around town.

Or the sense of safety you experience when you’re on the motorway.

Reviews and polls can guide you to a short list, but gut feel is an important factor.

Which is why it was so interesting watching the reactions of each of our ‘test drivers’ on Saturday.

Pitting two similar cars from different brands (Vauxhall & Ford) against one another in a test drive showdown meant that we cut through the data & stats and got to the core of what really matters: your opinions.

    Corsa Vs. Fiesta

    Astra Vs. Focus

    Insignia Vs. Mondeo

We put our willing volunteers in each of the cars, instructed them to drive around our specially designed test loop and answer one simple question at the end:

    “Which did you prefer?”

What was more interesting than the result (Ford proudly claimed the top spot) was the certainty most of our drivers had about their decision.

Doesn’t matter which way they leaned, they knew that it was their preference; there seemed to be very little middle ground.

What this goes to show is how important it is to get behind the wheel of a car early on in the buying process.

So even when you’re thinking of upgrading your current car, coming up with a shortlist and then test driving some of them can save you time and effort in the research process.

Thanks to everybody who took part on Saturday, we hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did.

    Happy driving,

P.S. We may or may not have your next dream car here at Thame Cars, but either way we’d be happy to talk to you about what it is you’re looking and make some suggestions.
